Although terrorism is a very serious and tragic thing, it seems that the threat is sometimes over stated. Many more people die as a result of car accidents each year than by the hands of terrorists.  You could make the argument that we would be much safer if we were to outlaw travel by car.  I believe we give more attention to terrorist acts because of their spectacular nature and in fact maybe because they are somewhat rare compared to other tragedies.  I am not sure we are any more or less safe from terrorism than we ever have been but deaths due to terrorism, as tragic as they are, are now and have always been rare.  Much of the real damage created by terrorism is the fear and terror itself.  We should not allow that to mold our direction as a country.
