The idea of the Coalition government was to unite the government in Great Britain during the war. On May 13, 1940 Churchill revealed a new war time cabinet which contained the most tallented people regardless of political or party affiliation. He said at the time he felt that because of the war time crisis this would be the only moral choice. He received a great deal of criticism from his own party for the choice.
When he addressed the Parliment after the coalition government announcement he was famously quoted as saying “I would say to the House, as I said to those who have joined this government: I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.”
